Why Haiti?

Why do you help in Haiti?
Why do you feed kids in Haiti and not here?

That is one of the most frequently asked questions I have received since starting Grace and Glory. It blows my mind every time I hear it. Sometimes I feel the need to come up with a snarky response, because honestly it pains me. Why would I let my sweet kids go without? I can’t imagine it.

But this is my answer. I live in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. That is where my house sits but I live in a a world that is much greater than my back yard. I’ve been to Africa, Mexico and Haiti; and plan on seeing so much more! However, God specifically called me 1,433 miles away from my home (not really far at all) to love on these children. Who am I to question that? God could have laid the local food shelter on my heart or other ministries which I have been involved with as well. I believe God knew that this mom of 3 needed these particular children just as much as they needed me.

Our students in Haiti didn’t get to choose where to be born, or what kind of life to be born into, neither did we. But they are children none the less. They love, learn, cry, feel, hurt and laugh just as our children do. I don’t believe distance should play a factor in who we help. We are all apart of this one world, and how we treat it and it’s people matter.

Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me. Matthew 25:40
